You need to interact outside of your world. I would suggest Heather Cox Richardson, Rev. William Barber, Rev Liz Theodosis, Riverside Church, John Dear, Robert Whittaker, Ali Wajat, Ocean Vong, Thomas Schlesser, Thom Hartman, Chris Hedges, Katie Phang, AOC, Bernie Sanders, Michael Sean Winters, Terry Tempest Williams, David Oakes. A few names to reach out and connect . Eyes and ears wide open.
In fact, I came into the good Doctor's orb through her interview with Thom Hartman. I do not tune into Mr Hartman. Yet that vid. popped up somewhere. ¡Et voilà!
I repeat now and then my wonderment about how to have a civilized--fully effective--response to utter viciousness. In this regard, I hope Dr. Lee will provide more commentary particularly on the Kirk situation. From what I've seen, it has been yet another opportunity for Rightwing ruthlessness, along with people getting batted down by giving even just hints about Rightwing dangerousness. Here is from John Oliver who echoes some of Dr. Lee’s message: “Giving the bully your lunch money doesn’t make him go away. It just makes him come back hungrier each time. They [Trump/MAGA Republicans] are never going to stop.” So, “At some point, you have to draw the line.” He advises using four words with these bullies: “F… you. Make me!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohPToBog_-g At least Kimmel did come back. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was all for nonviolent action to advance civil rights, but he was relentless, too.
My-my, the water seems to be rising every day. We are into it up to our necks. Watching snippets of Trump’s unhinged UN speech made my heart sink. Every day we should dedicate ourselves to resist this evil eating away at our democracy. Resist and (as you are doing) promote a progressive vision for the kind of world we want to create. Thank you for mentioning the Guardian piece by Timothy Garton Ash. He’s spot on.
I’m saying something I’ve felt for a while, Dr. Lee. I know that you are an expert in your field and I respect that. When I even skim your articles- excerpt one recent one that I recall- I feel zero sense of hope. I do not understand what anyone is supposed to do after reading your articles. Starting today, I’m taking a break. Yes, times are bad. But seriously- how does anyone find the courage, energy, and hope to do anything to make a difference after reading this? I found Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue to be a fantastic example of not sugarcoating anything along with providing a sense of hope because right there in front of us he was fighting back and doing it masterfully. Messaging is so important. So many well-meaning folks end up just clobbering with fear and hopelessness those of us who care and are doing our best to resist. It’s just too much to take in.
This is the response to criticism of Dr Lee's admiration of Mahatma Gandhi.

Dr Lee is hypothesizing; that is, she is applying her experience, strength, and hope refined by the content of her character, Dr Lee seeks a way out of at least two of humanity's dilemmas. One dilemma is the elevation by wrongdoers of violence and cruelty as ends in themselves versus the passivity, oftentimes apathy, of the large majority of essentially and ordinarily peaceable neighbors, unintentionally enabling that violence. 😱
The only way out of this particular dilemma that I can fathom is to transcend the victim-victimizer continuum -- the violence-violated dualism -- upward to an integrated spiritual life. This matured spirit blends compassion and courage, aggression and reconciliation, etc. into life of leadership of self, perhaps others, willfully to navigate the future without harm.🧠
The second dilemma has been around since the European Enlightenment, at least: that of the limitation of the nation-state paradigm and the need to grow beyond tribalism to a catholic conscience of universal justice. That is an ongoing aspiration of the best among us. 😯
As a clinical expert in curbing violence within the individual, together with insights into transcending the deathly darwinism among nation-states, all in favor of an eventually benign order, Dr Lee is proposing her hypothesis.🔬
How likely will this progression over generations be? Who knows? Right now, it seems out of touch and reach. Yet, if we are to hope for a humanity of justice, we have to strive for it no matter grim the odds appear to be. 🥵
We will change the approach along the way. We have to start somewhere, however inadequate that beginning appears to each of us. That 'somewhere-as-epicenter' is Dr Lee's one-world-or-none hypothesis for the way out of these two, and other, dilemmas. 🫣
In view of Dr Lee's expertise and humility, I trust her proposed road-map of an inward pilgrimage informed by a tenacious optimism to be manifested through us and by us. That long and grinding road ahead of us requires a guard-or-guide-rail on either side: one of intellectual enquiry and the other of charitable humility.💖

I am not OK. I was admitted in hospital after coughing blood and having extremely high bp (220/180). I had a panic attack and I am still panicking about whether Judge Jones will send me to jail for contempt of court for trying to get justice for my mother. I want to file a CR60 motion showing I did not receive the service, and other facts why federal jursdiction should be allowed for new actions, including the fact USA is a defendant for not protecting the rights of a legally visiting tourist and therefore only federal courts can hear matters involving international treaties and where USA is a defendant. However Judge Jones never reads any of my pro se pleadings.
Scott: I am begging you to save my life. If I get sent to prison I am afraid I will die. I have never done anything wrong in my entire life, I can never imagine being locked up. Besides, if I lose my clean criminal history the Trump administration can cancel my green card and deport me. This is extreme stress that I cannot tolerate. I have been contemplating suicide. I just got out of a stupor from drugs to control anxiety and stress, but I am extremely agitated still. Could you please file a CR-60 motion on my behalf? I will prepare the motion you just need to make any changes you deem fit and file it. Can you please help at this critical time? There is nobody else that can help me. I dont know what else to do.
Thank you for framing this as you have. It surely assembles this predicament in a concise and coherent manner. I did read the article in you mention from the Guardian and…yes, people do not quite grasp what is happening and if they do, are uncertain as to how to oppose and overcome it. Deeply appreciated.

The Ptretender-in-Chief . . . gotta love Tump.
Thinks he is adored on the world stage; he is deplored as a world stooge.
Where is Charlie Chaplin when we need him?
If one has not seen it, this monologue by Jimmy Kimmel was incredible. https://youtu.be/aTZjo42xRH4
So was the expression of forgiveness by Charlie Kirk's widow to which Mr Kimmel referred. https://youtu.be/9OUj_Hzgnjs
This country is being shredded by internal violence...as is the world at large with wars.
The internet makes it worse...violent anger is simply how we communicate today.

That’s as far as we got with the counting stuff.

You forgot to mention racists/white supremacists.
