The Existential Challenge We Face

On that fateful day of November 8, 2016, when the unexpected realization came to be that Donald Trump had been elected president of the United States, I and my many professional colleagues were shocked.  So was the public, which was why, beginning at 8 a.m. the following morning, I was inundated with phone calls, messages, and emails, most notably from civil society members who had been in contact with me for prison reform.
