what to do?

I for one am contributing money regularly to efforts to register young adults to vote.

Dangerous case of DT can be gifted to people especially young people and seniors. This will educate them and they will further propagate the right messaging. Seniors are falling to Trump's rhetoric just like they fall for scams by cunning salesman.

Glad you broke the ice! Some of us are continuing. I hope it all adds up. I just published this -

2024's consequential election season looms. Psychiatrist Ravi Chandra takes a look at the Far-Right playbook and the choice between autocratic and egalitarian-in-progress choices, with a focus on psychology, propaganda, and dangerous influences that are amplifying chances of violence.

We as a country are in crisis. Your voice is one of reason. I have worked in mental health for 40 years, helped research the application of the Goldwater Rule in different states and came to the conclusion that our voices in mental health need to be heard and we need to come forward. We cannot lose hope or the strength to speak. Democracy depends on our voices.

Thank you! A necessary piece! The media is lazy and I fear as Liz Cheney has said: we are ‘sleepwalking’ toward dictatorship. I fear we have or will become Weimar America…..I badly wish to be wrong about this fear.

A simple way to understand and communicate why Donald Trump is so dangerous to our world presents itself in the psychological literature of over 600 articles on the Dark Triad personality disorder — narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism — and about 40 articles on Dark Leadership (how organizations are affected by leaders with those traits). Trump has thoroughly self-documented that he has those personality defects, which researchers have recognized since 2002 as measures of malevolence. Furthermore, obviating the need for diagnosing Trump as a psychopath, ethicist Darcia Narvaez has identified three neurological axes for human behavior based on neuroanatomical structures that, when conditioned antisocially, produce ethical and personality defects that correspond, respectively, to each of those maladaptive traits. Under such pathological conditions, (1) the reptilian brain’s ethics of security, driven by instinct that ideally seeks oneness, produces a psychopath’s fragmented worldview that nobody else matters but him/her; (2) the mammalian brain’s ethics of engagement, guided by intuition that ideally offers self-sacrifice, manifests as a narcissist’s total self-absorption to the exclusion of any willingness to sacrifice; and (3) the cerebral cortex’s ethics of imagination, shaped by deliberation and narrative that ideally offers nurturance and understanding, maps to a Machiavellian’s malicious compulsion to bully, misinform, manipulate, and dominate everyone around him/her. Leaders given great power can exploit all three axes of human interactions at every opportunity, successively depleting infrastructures with each decision.

This is exactly the subject material I have hoped for people to read and learn about. Sadly, I do not think The GOP read any books most certainly not empiracal scientifically researched fact based non-fiction. The Dark Triad and the darker Dark Tetrad drescribe empirical knowledge in abnormal psychology. I just read (twice thus far via audiobook) "Tyrannical Minds", by Dean A. Haycock, Ph.D. (Published 2019). He describes criteria for development of Dark Triad personality, genetic predisposition, home and familial relationships in early to mid childhood, as well as the criteria of the demographic society/country environment and quality of life, and, the likelihood of rising to total control dictatorship. The book includes in-depth case studies of the lives of the most notorious tyrannical dictators that lived in the last 100 years (Hitler, Stalin, etc. and the same inclusive criteria that applies to Donald Trump. The focus is on the Dark Triad, but also described the Dark Tetrad. In addition, due to demographic and financial limitations, I have been living in subsidized housing for 13 years and the property is managed (grossly mismanaged) by a andlord who is most definitely a malignant narcissist (absence of empathy, self entitlement above all, manipulative intimidation, coercion, compulsive lying, repetitive federal housing violations, highly suspect of financial fraud, and avoids employing honest or competent staff, instead keeping 1 needy loyal liar on board. In 2010, I needed a simple reasonable accomodation that a HUD funded housing advocate requested on my behalf. It was denied 3 times and the advocate filed a claim for a medical disability accomodation denial. The was the last I heard of it, until 2011, when the landlord's first terrifying retaliatory event occurred. The retaliatory revenge including impulsive narcissistic rage, has never completely ended, but I have my facts straight and I am protected by knowledge from extensive studies in my own psychology, NPD, and identifiable behavior traits from malignant narcissism and the Dark Triad. It's not surprising just how out of proportion it is that what was my very innocent and reasonable request that, at most, caused the landlord embarrassment that tarnished his most superior self entitled human being, resulted in retaliatory revenge that is seemingly, a life sentence for me. Sort of like having a duplicate Donald Trump in a contained playing field. I appreciate your very thorough references index and I will be looking at these for more reading and learning related to the Dark Triad personality. Thank you so much.

Keep it up, Bandy: Mark 6:4 American Standard Version (ASV) "And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house."

I would have wished you a better fate than your profession has cast upon you, but we need your work - we are in an existential crisis.

The media most likely to respond to Lee’s warning is PBS, for example Frontline or the Newshour. A few days ago the Goldwater Rule was mentioned on the Newshour as a reason for the limited discussion of trump’s mental condition, but only in passing. This issue deserves much deeper and wider exposure. Have you attempted to contact either of those potential parties, and if so, what response so far?

To begin we need to understand how people decide. Is it automatic like liking a color or a picture? Is it reflective asking what individual decisions mean? Do we accept voices of others with expertise or do we feel pressured by authorities on subjects? How have we been educated in our families, schools, towns: To be curious? To accept without questioning? To take time, ( and who has time these days?) to answer questions like, what medicare plan we should choose with so many options or do we default to the easiest decision? When we read something inflammatory do we look at where the information is coming from, or get emotionally excited, or fearful and move from that point? When choosing leaders, do we like those that are charismatic, portray strength and force? Can someone's voice tone sway our decision? How comfortable are we speaking up for an unpopular choice? Do we feel we will be excluded from "our tribe"?

Thank you Dr. Lee!

Yes, The #TraitorTrump cancer has spread around the globe.

I still wonder if folks will course correct a year from now. Not feeling confident after seeing who & how many have cowered & succumbed to the evils of that man.

We’ve been dealing with this daily madness since he came down the escalator in 2015. Insane.

" Now, he is suspended in disgrace from his positions at Columbia University and with New York State, but his ironic attempts to revise his image through his own “Groundhog Day” seem to be unceasing." Although I have heard that this is narcissism the return to the same argument over and over is a form of symbiosis I think. This early childhood wound expects a symbiotic relationship from everyone. There is no room for debate. Instead there is a 'I talk, you don't talk' aspect.

Dr Lee, in your book 'Profile of a Nation' - You gave several scenarios of How Trump regime will conclude. And this turned out to be correct with his refusal to concede election defeat and instigating Jan 6 riots.

What's your analysis on how Trump's 2024 election campaign will conclude IF it's allowed to go unchecked? I mean if Trump is not timely prosecuted & convicted of 91 criminal charges and allowed to fight elections again. What scenarios do you see?

Assuming that Trump is not timely convicted & removed from ballot (out of judicial incompetence or for whatever reason), even if he loses 2024 elections, he's not gonna concede the results and we go back to square one with him gaslighting American people again & possibly more violence. Trump won't let American society heal as long as he's not in strict detention. What scenarios do you see?
