Per Robert Hubbell, “And suggesting that we abandon Joe Biden because he did not “win” one debate in the eyes of the media is unforgivable. When Trump was convicted of 34 felonies, his supporters rallied around him. When he was adjudicated to be a sexual abuser, his supporters rallied around him. When he was fined hundreds of millions of dollars for running fraudulent businesses in New York, his supporters rallied around him. So, when Joe Biden has an off night in a debate against a geyser of lies, we are going to abandon him? Seriously???? We are better than that, we are tougher than that, and we should be more loyal than that.”

Get over it. We can sit around and wring our hands or get facts together about how we are better off in a Biden presidency versus Trump’s. There are so many issues/problems with trying to put another candidate in now. This is who we have running and I’m riden with Biden!

¡BINGO!

President Biden may need to retire. I can not say. One thing I do know: the President will retire if he chooses to. He has earned the dignity of deciding for himself.

¿Me?

I will vote for President Biden because I am comfortable, my conservatism notwithstanding, with a President Harris.

Biden does indeed jumble his speech but he whipped trump so much. Trump told a pack of lies and may be a mad man. Watch the debate a second time and you will see that Biden got stronger as the debate went on. I have faith in him and at any rate it may be too late to change horses which would also bolster the mad man in the eyes of the half of our population who are deranged with contagion. I don’t feel like we should look like we’re running away from trump.

The dilemma here is that President Biden may need to retire; I remain unconvinced. The rub is that President Biden has pain-stakingly cobbled together a political coalition of fractious elements, like herding cats into a mandate. Not sure anyone could sustain that coalition, let alone re-build it.

The reasons dems don't fall in line is - perhaps - because they tend to be egalitarian thinkers, not keen on simply kowtowing to leadership. This leads to responsible and irresponsible questioning of their leaders - which is necessary in democracy. Republicans tend to have hierarchical, social dominance orientation - so they fall in line. All the more reason for us to "check ourselves" and support Joe now. Realistically, there is no miraculous "solve" for this. Anyone advancing at this stage will be essentially unproven and would have to make their name from scratch. "To Joe or not to Joe" is a question, but it's really that we don't want to lose. Let's not make our "winning" dependent solely on an ideal leader.

Let go and let Joe for two weeks and then see where we are. Things will be clearer *then, and, I hope, decisively in favor of the President. As I told a conservative member of my erstwhile Party, "I would rather vote for a man committed to republicanism with holes in his memory than clear-thinking tyrant with holes in his soul any day." To his credit, my friend will NOT vote for Trump.

This has been the main (& ONLY) russian propaganda negative that has some traction, & is why it is hammered so hard in MM. We have a transnational class warfare happening now, with the Power Elite Controlling a majority of all forms of media. This is Cambridge Analytica ROID RAGE and few understand.

Our ONLY chance is President Biden! As leaders and supporters of DEMOCRACY, finding focusing and ensuring THAT message is OUR JOB!

The phenomenal success of President Biden’s first term has demonstrated more than enough he has earned his second. It was the main reason russia went after him and no other candidate running, because they knew the depth of his experience and expertise would win him the first election. His first term performance has PROVEN their original concerns in spades.

Biden will DESTROY trump in November, especially if everyone quits falling for kremlin talking points.

Abandoning President Biden NOW?! There is a prevalent fantasy that there is an ideal candidate out there. Who would that be? Furthermore should people be fired for one bad day at work? A president is not hired to do debates. It is about making good decisions. All this divisiveness about Joe Biden will ensure Trump’s reelection.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court declared that the January 6, 2021 Capitol attackers were not obstructing justice by preventing Congress from certifying the election results of November 2000. Down is up and up is down in America today. Even if a viable Democratic candidate were to emerge, the nation has been wired for failure for all, victory for a few financial titans. Not seeing the rise of fascism is the real psychopathy here. We have learned that most Americans are supremely dishonest with themselves. I don't think that can be repaired.

As an attorney, we need the facts. Joe Biden has almost always been on point. But it was clear, he had laryngitis, and was mouth breathing, all of which is indicative of an upper respiratory cold. The AMA on its website lists cold meds as causing sedation and some confusion, and the boxes also display these warnings in Bold. It was obvious to me, that he got more animated as the night wore on that the meds were wearing off. After the debate he was the Joe we all know. The Media needs to focus on the literal elephant in the room: Trump, his lies, and vindictiveness toward the people of our nation and our allies. Remember, the media artificially focused on Hillary's emails, and that's how we got Trump. Can't make that mistake again. Facts matter.

Yours is a knee-jerk reaction. So far, the debate results indicate negligible reaction from the electorate. That is important.

Biden lost a debate. Trump is a convicted felon. Biden spoke too softly. Trump spewed lie after lie. Biden looked frail. Trump looked like the raving lunatic that he is. Biden fights for democracy. Trump is a rapist. Pundits abandon Biden after a debate loss but rally around an evil man spewing lies.

My question is why are you as a trained expert giving into propaganda panic? Where is your fortitude? Why are you being engulfed by Astroturf propaganda articles and opinion pieces designed to drive apathy and fear. Why are you encouraging your subscribers to read articles to convince them to abandon Biden based on one debate?

Five days ago, the media was running stories that Joe Biden was going to be on a cocktail of drugs “jacked up Joe.”

In 2015 and 2016 the media was publishing articles that Hillary was on the verge of death. Countless tabloid articles showing Hillary was actually a clone, analyzing a piece of metal that dropped from her purse claiming it was proof that she was incapacitated and being artificially propped up. People were seriously concerned that she was about to die. Nine years later, she just accepts a Tony award and is living her best life.

NBC News 2016-. “Clinton’s campaign appears to have, at best, withheld information from the public and — at worst — misled them by aggressively batting down "conspiracy theories" that her coughing fit was anything more than allergies. Opponents are already seeing the incident as proof of their claims that Clinton has been hiding health issues”

“ Clinton’s health scare is already expected to potentially affect financial markets, but the impact would be far more dramatic if she were president. A 90-minute window with no news about a missing president could lead people to assume the worst.”

“Clinton’s core vulnerability is that most Americans don’t find her honest or trustworthy. Will voters now feel like they’ve been misled about her health? Or will the vulnerability of the illness make Americans empathize more with someone who often has difficulty connecting.”

CNN 2016

“Hillary Clinton’s campaign is regrouping after a weekend of stumbles left her looking vulnerable at a pivotal moment of her battle with Donald Trump.

Her wobbly exit Sunday at muggy Ground Zero – captured on damaging video of Clinton lurching into the arms of her security detail – followed by a belated announcement that she has pneumonia dramatically turned the state of her health from conservative conspiracy theory into a genuine campaign issue.”

Advisers to Clinton are discussing how to move beyond arguably the worst weekend of the campaign. Any attempt at turning the corner on transparency “

Prior to that the propaganda machine convinced a majority of people that Barack Obama wasn’t American.

Biden already back in the bullring fighting because he believed in himself when for a brief moment, we all didn't. That's a leader.

It is far too late in the game to change presidential candidates. It takes time to establish an effective candidacy. We don’t have that time.

Biden lost a debate. He looked frail and weak. But he continues to work hard and effectively for democracy. The pundits immediately abandon him even before analyzing the actual — not the assumed — impact on voters.

His opponent continues to be a sociopathic, demented liar and, arguably, a traitor. His base and many pundits rally around him

Disgraceful.

Expand full comment

Let us not rush to judgement. A week or two for the dust to settle will not change anything should President Biden decide to retire. The mass and social media will enable adequate entrée, prior to the election, for a pinch-hitter. On the other hand, a seven-to-fourteen day wait may place the President in a much better stead; he may then well be able, as someone wrote in Dr Cox Richardson's forum this morning, "to keep calm and campaign on."

"...what Donald Trump needed was a psychiatrist, not a moderator." Well said!

Trump is like a cobra hypnotizing prey. He hypnotizes the media.

Biden coalesced and coalesces a fractured, contentious Democrat party where others tried but couldn't. He's a member of the Silent Generation. Think D-Day.

In the debate, Biden reminded me of myself at the end of a grueling hard work day. He's real.

Can the country tell the difference between a Trump and a Biden? If not, the country has deeper problems than the Democrat candidate.

The American public has gotten so used to instant gratification. When they want something , they want it perfect and they want it now And if things don't go their way, they catastrophize everything.!. Go ahead, throw the baby out with a bathwater.! We all are so prepared to bail on somebody who has actually done us a great service over the last four years, He is not a stupid man. He is smart enough to defer to others and has never let his ego get in the way. His flaws might be apparent because he's older, but the bottom line i:. He has a great team .We need him and his team in there to guide us through the next 4 years, so that the torch can be passed to a younger candidate A candidate possibly like Gavin Newsom, who will need the next 4 years to prepare to take on the role of President.

I hate to say it, but that's one thing MAGA supporters can teach dems. Loyalty! If Biden and his team were truly incapable of the job ahead , his family would encourage him leaving. The man is dearly loved And has never had an ego. He always puts country and community first. I read in a newsletter by Robert. Howell, the best thing you can do if you want him to step down? It's to be quiet and just offer your support. Or stay in the background? Because the bottom line is that kind of support is not needed. If If everybody bails on a sports team, the minute they had one loss or even 2. We'd have no sports for people to play in. No entertainment and no kids would be able to grow up and have any sports because everybody would be bailing on them the first time they made a mistake. So many democrats made a bigger deal about Biden's evening. Then, they did a belt, the travesty of that train wreck of a convict standing next to him on the stage.

For an 81 yr. old man with the world's weight on his shoulders he did remarkably well. He improved throughout the event, he didn't quit, and he did not degrade. We want to see a person "get better" under duress, which is the optimal performance for anyone in any human endeavor.

It is clear Biden had laryngitis and was suffering from an upper respiratory cold causing him to breathe through his mouth. It was also obvious, that once the cold meds began wearing off, he got more animated through the night, it was especially apparent after the debate. But, his people should have recognized he was under the weather and the drugs made him weak. They need to postpone it to another night. Despite it all, Biden made good points, and Trump just lied like he always does: No Policy, Just Doom, Gloom and Complaints.

Thank you, Dr. Lee, for compellingly articulating the stark, ominous and historically existential choice that America now faces. Just as yesterday’s full-frontal Supreme Court evisceration of the Chevron doctrine betrayed a wholesale sacrifice of the indispensable value of scientific and technological expertise on the altar of Christian theocratic know-nothingiism and religious extremist diktat, so your clarity regarding the centrality of Trump’s mental unfitness and shared psychotic contagion to the survival of America’s democratic republic, freedom -- and civilization itself -- graphically underscores the catastrophic cost of the wholesale suppression of psychiatric expertise to the superficial, myopic and delusional optics of politics reduced to performative theatrics.

For me, the takeaway from your insights is that ultimately, understanding the truth about psychological health and mental fitness -- i.e., grasping that Trump’s false confidence equates with psychological illness and unfitness rather than the obverse -- is symbiotic with morality and the exigency of moral choice over individual and collective societal life and death.
