At heart of "Gandhism" ideology is the belief that you can solve societal, political and global problems by appealing to virtues of empathy (kindness), conscience and morality that exists in every human being. Gandhi believed that all people have to do to bring change is to "shake the conscience" of people (oppressors/rulers/colonizers etc) as deep inside their heart, their is goodness and humanity. Gandhi was a strong proponent of "turning the other cheek" argument. This is highly flawed and dangerous thinking.
Dr Lee, your explanation of Psychopathy points to the scientific reality that some people do NOT have conscience, morality and empathy. It's not just unreasonable but a scientific fallacy to expect such people to be rational humans, and there is no way to awaken their deeply buried conscience by empathizing with them. Turn the other cheek argument doesn't work with sociopaths & psychopaths.
India got independence in 1947 and by 1990s it was taken over by religious Fascists. The so called founding fathers of India never anticipated a Fascist threat to the society (they never even understood Pathological basis of Fascism), so they failed to take societal defense measures against Fascist threats. India is a an example on how Democracies die.
Sadly, in foreign policy the US Govt would seem to fulfill almost all the criteria for both sociopathy and psychopathy. I'm not sure what to conclude about those of us who buy into it wholeheartedly and unreservedly, year after year.
Dr. Lee, I have studied civilizations for years to try understand why humans go through cycles of growth for the betterment of their civilizations only to bring them crashing down. Empires, countries, communities build, grow, expand and fail. Often through strife, wars, and social ills. I have become realistic and saddened that we humans continue to destroy our civilizations due to fear; anger; rage; envy; and ill-education. War and diseases help to erase our human numbers, by attrition. So we appear to be condemned to repeat our cycles ad infinitum. We can only do what we can or feel we must to rectify wrongs or to heal. I am not heartened by any progress as we'll be back to where we started. My thoughts.
