I feel, however, compelled to make a couple of suggestions
• Fascism and/or dictatorship may more accurately depict the existential threat faced, rather than authoritarianism; possibly unwittingly an Orwellian euphemism that common folk may be less familiar with.
• In order to be and/or appear non partisan, as well as to abandon a historic double standard, we need to subject all presidential candidates to the committee for psychological and cognitive evaluation. As a member of the Dem Party, I sadly and reluctantly view Biden as not fit for the office hre holds, as demonstrated by the incompetence and inhumane manner he has handled the genocidal policies of apartheid Israel towards occupied Palestine.
We know lack of empathy is symptomatic of psychopathy or sociopathy.
Full disclosure: Im calling Biden to resign . His Vice President is competent and not tarnished, as Biden is, by complicity in war crimes such as genocide and starvation.
I think people misinterpret Trump's appeal. I think they understand he represents a death-wish "Is Paris burning?" lust for destruction. AND THEY LOVE IT! It titillates them -- with the promise to destroy the system that has failed them. So your challenge, Bandy -- is to help figure out how to counter THAT. I think Obama had the answer -- HOPE was his slogan. One thing is clear -- every reference to Trump's worst statements drivers MSNBC wild, and gives Trumpers a boner. Unless that is understood, just pointing out things like Trump calling immigrants vermin just fans the flames he wants fanned. And Trump KNOWS that - possibly courtesy of whatever Russian psych thinktank supports him.
Question for the session: Based on your knowledge of the childhood backgrounds of both Trump and Hitler, especially of familial physical/psychological abuse and/or mistreatment by dint of neglect and indifference, do you discern parallels in their mutual trajectories of megalomania, gaslighting, psychopathic barbarity, violence-instigating and perpetrating, sociopathic dearth of human empathy for human suffering and death and, ultimately, self-destruction?
