Thank you you for sharing this thoughtful and heartfelt tribute. Dr. Zimbardo accomplished so much yet he was down to earth and relatable in many ways, whether talking about his childhood or common interests. He knew how to connect with people. So glad he contributed to your books! His legacy will live on in all those he inspired in his life and career.
As much as I respect and admire Dr. Lee and her sincere efforts to call out the infectious dangers of demagoguery, her admiration for Dr. Zimbardo is unwittingly misguided. Many studies have come out after the Stanford Prison experiment that reveals it too was misguided but it was done intentionally. In Scientific American it says
"As we explain in a forthcoming paper in the American Psychologist, this new evidence makes it very clear that merely assigning people to play the role of prison guards did not lead them to engage in cruelty naturally, of their own accord. Instead, the tapes provide clear evidence that the experimenters in charge of the ‘prison’ used psychological tactics to persuade reluctant guards to adopt an aggressive style in their interactions with the helpless prisoners"
I realize Dr. Lee is doing her best to root out the pervasive dangers Trump will incur should he be president again but if she is using Dr. Zimbardo to make her case against him, that's not a good strategy. While the new findings of the Milgram experiment does not dismiss completely Dr. Zimbardo's findings, it does show that, if we have any regard for the truth, we must act upon it as a supreme concern- this means questioning our own assumptions- as Dr. Lee said herself
"There seem to be powerful silent barriers to dealing with new truths emanating from psychological laboratories and field experiments that tell us things about how the mind works, which challenge our basic assumptions".
It's not possible for psychological laboratory experiments sufficiently resolve truth of beyond a reasonable doubt. At best they support the defensible resolution that Trump is unfitness to lead.
Dr. Lee or whom ever it may concern, I have a theory, racism is a mental illness but is not characterized as such.I look at the concept or definition of sociopaths and psychopaths. The signs. Aren't they the same characteristics? Also I have solution to racism in America. I.need someone with knowledge or an expert on this subject to hear my proposal. Can you or know someone you would recommend it communicate with?
Thank you, Dr. Lee, for these important updates. May God comfort the Zimbardo family and all relatives and friends!
The "Achilles heel" in the Democratic electoral strategy, which you have consistently pointed out in these pages, is US entanglement in the Middle East (and Asia in general). In such complex circumstances, a relatively close November 5 electoral outcome either way, with possibilities of coalitions, would maintain Democratic balance, while also doing credit to honest-hearted persons in all camps. G-d bless!
I am very sorry for your loss, Dr. Lee. I was looking for the name of the APA director who worked to undermine your efforts in the early Trump years and came across another detractor. So now I am ISO the appropriate forum to counter the false and racist narratives in the following. It’s certainly backwards to claim Dr. Lees intent or even methodology leads to an anti democratic society. I do not see her as overtly ideological. Certainly she does not aim to platform a messiah to usher in a new era as this pandering academic claims, but rather to separate the source of the pathogen from the public. He sounds like so many other pseudo intellectuals out there, making excuses for creeping fascism to infiltrate academic institutions.

My condolences Dr Lee on loss of your mentor and fellow activist.
I learned about Dr. Zimbardo taking the Wesleyan Social Psychology class on Coursera.
While certainly not an expert in SP, my takeaway is the importance of compassion as a means to balance the fight or flight response;
to think again,
to reconsider,
to realize one's fallibility and
put the others position in the
-best possible light before
making your judgment
-as clear as possible with
-acceptable,
-relevant,
-sufficient evidence,
-rebutting all serious challenges,
-accepting the burden of proof, and
-only agreeing on the most defensible resolution or if time permits
-suspend judgment
