I think you many non medical people including The Lincoln Project, journalists at bipartisanship politicians have gotten thru to the majority of the country, the voters. The problem is that many state legislators and governors who like the proximity to power and money are making it difficult for minorities as well as Democrats to vote. I see the growing, dangerous conflict among people as (at least partially) an externalization of Trump's mentality, which is a mess to say the least. It reminds me of Dr. Eric Berne's game "Let's You and Him Fight" in "Games People Play." Trump has openly and clearly said how he likes conflict. Of course, it's always served the hideous purpose of the Republican Party's political leaders, too. As some help, finally, Thomas Edsall in a recent essay in the New York Times brought in behavioral health professionals to be clear about Trump's dangerous mentality and behavior. However, there was no mention of Dr. Lee. :( Legal experts and now courts raising use of the 14th Amendment is a hopeful sign, though (to me) still flabbergasting that any technical legal debate would somehow be needed. I believe in it's lawful application to Trump, first and foremost. Then, I have no problem with his voters thinking they are disenfranchised--let these members of a kind of Jonestown be disenfranchised. It would be madness to continue to let a group of people who are even not a majority be able to harm the rest of us, that is, if some lawful means to stop them is not taken. If not stopped at this point, there will be worse conflict from Trump and his voters for him, where he would not "lose any voters" even if he should shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue.
