I’m socially conservative but I found this message compelling. Those who condemn it are comparable to those Jesus condemned in John 9:39-41. (Read the whole chapter for the context.)
The “house built on sand” parable is at Matthew 7:24-27. Notice that building on the rock isn’t “believing” in Jesus, it’s DOING according to his teachings. Prayers of hypocrites are worse than useless. They OFFEND God. And that has consequences.
Only an idiot would come against the Catholic church. Doing so will have consequences. She confronted El Trumpo to his face in front of his family. In the old days that alone would be reason enough for an "unfortunate event" to take place. Only God knows the beginning and the end of any life. Lawbreakers and deniers of all that is holy and revered is a dangerous game to play with outcomes not typically favorable to the offender(s). God Save America!
For me, the most compelling aspect of this whole event was the look and behavior of the man she was speaking to, trying to get thru that veneer of contempt. The smirk, askew glance shows that these pleadings went down a black hole. That’s where all his empathy lies, in a black hole.
His demeanor bothered me greatly as well. It was as if there was, if I may say so, a battle going on between good and evil ....right before our eyes...It was powerful and it was chilling...
Agree. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)
I have sent this speech out to groups, as well as individuals, in my sphere. I have shared it on Facebook as well and commented when others sent it to me. Thank you for highlight it here, Dr.
I am not a religious person but i have something to say about this.
Dr Lee, we are witnessing implosion of long standing structures - political, global, economic. Also add religious institutions to that.
Where were Bishops, Clergies and other religious heads when Trump was using the name of the Christ to get voters? Keeping aside Evangelical religious heads who have already sold out Christ, the Papacy of Catholic Church made little effort to take a moral stand against Trump.
Pope Francis has been critical of Donald Trump due to his views on migrants & Muslims but Pope's stand against Trump is now rather muted in 2024 elections. 2024 elections was a clear choice between life affirming position vs Death spiral of civilization. But Pope took an ambiguous position when it mattered most.
Pope saw both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump with equivalency of Evil and asked voters to chose lesser of two evils as per their conscience. Wrong! The evil was clear as daylight and it was Donald Trump. But Pope due to catholic position on abortion attributed Kamala Harris with Evil tendencies. This was very poor judgement on part of papacy.
Now this Bishop appeals Donald Trump's mercy for migrants. It's like Bishop asking Hitler for mercy on Jews after he has acquired power. Too late now. The Papacy should've taken a strong stand against Trump long before.
Dr Lee, the religious institutions are tangled in politics and are blinded by politics. It's well known that Trump has a strong religious following. If religious figures unequivocally call out Trump as the real devil, these religious figures will lose popular support and followers. So to safeguard their personal positions, they don't speak what needs to be said.
In Russia, Patriarch Kirill has sold out Christ in the service of Putin by giving religious backing to fatal, foolish and illegal war of aggression. I have worse examples from my home country India on how religious institutions sold out fictitious gods.
Dr Lee, i am sorry to say but i can't see solace in religion in these dark times.
You have drawn a definitive line between organized religion and politics. One cannot exist without the other. That being said it is a well-known fact that silence is in and of itself an answer. Perhaps movements are going on behind the scenes that the public is not aware of. At least, not at present. America's voting citizens have fallen victim to the cult of personality not unlike that one who fell from Heaven with a third of the angels.
This creature also wanted to be worshipped. That is Trump's Achilles heel. All anyone has to do is compliment him, fawn over him, and tell him how great he is. Yet, his record in the business world and how he has treated those who have been loyal to him speaks volumes. Apostasy is the culprit. Suffering is the penance that is the result.
Brooke Harrington, sociologist at Dartmouth, called this homily not just a sermon but a masterclass in status (denial?) on Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s LUCID Zoom on Friday. Bishop Bidde so gently called for higher moral ground and self-reflection in the corridors of power. I wrote about contempt and humility a few years ago -
Sociopathy cannot be assuaged. It cannot be bargained with. It cannot be cured. It can only be stamped out by good people who, like the bishop, remain unafraid of speaking truth to power. She's accomplished that. It was an historic moment in time. It will have lasting and devastating effects upon those who doggedly cling to the illusion of power--to the detriment of all who foolishly align themselves with an ogre. No one working with Trump is safe. No one working with him should ever assume they've impressed him to the point where he is loyal to them. He is a danger to everyone who should never be trusted.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, responded with fury:
"Bishop Budde hijacked the National Prayer Service to promote her radical ideology,” he charged. “This was an opportunity to unify the country in prayer, but she used it to sow division. Even worse, she’s continued her political crusade in media interviews. Shameful." Johnson's words deserve a place of honor in Professor Frederico Finchelstein's book, "A Brief History of Fascist Lies".
He is deceived. The head of the cult will not reward his defense of wrongdoing. He is not safe from the ramblings and actions of a deranged individual.
It is impossible to appeal to the human nature of a sociopath. Every time Trump told the story of the snake and mentioned Hannibal Lecter he was openly mocking his cult members. Today we are witnessing MAGA enthusiasts crying about what is happening to them. Trump asked, "What have you got to lose?" The answer in one word is "everything" aka Shake Hands With The Devil.
Thank you, Dr. Lee, for the inspiring recording and transcript of Bishop Budde's sermon. May the message influence many to practise fair, ethical, loving, kind and considerate conduct toward all others!

They need her badly in Congress. Play it on a big screen every day in the Rotonda
I might play this every day from now until I either have it memorized (like the Serenity Prayer) or until November 4, 2028.
I was thinking the same thing...or at least read it....She is a prophetic voice 💞
Thank you for posting this. We all need to learn from it.

When the Devil stole power with help of Mammon, the Pope sent him divine blessings and blessings to American people. Absurdity of religion.

I very much appreciate your article from "Psychology Today".

I like the way you think.

Sounds like you and the bishop have been communicating.
Smirk from the brand new pol who didn’t have to pay ANY dues for his rapid rise to VP. Apparently, MEEMAW didn’t teach him any manners.
