I, for one, underestimated the spread of Trump contagion due to the seductive allure of the feelings of empowerment grievance politics and magical thinking provides. Thanks for your efforts and the colleagues who supported you, Dr. Lee. We have a lot of work to do, and it will take many years to work this out.

Thank you for all the work you and your colleagues have done and still do trying to help America. Our hearts are broken that the Country did not hear your expert words before the election! Now his voters may be forced to learn the hard way.

Thank you for all your work Dr Bandy X. Lee. Truly we need to take care of ourselves and examine ourselves so that we can participate in what comes next. I am listening to Dignity by Donna Hicks a recommended read by my Montessori colleagues. You share that you took time in prayer before returning to the reality outside of yourself. We all need to take pause and do the same in it own way.

Dr Lee, my analysis of 2024 elections is here for people to read

https://takeindiaforward.blogspot.com/2024/11/why-trump-won-2024-us-elections.html

I like to say something about the point you are always raising on why experts are not consulted. This is a broad based problem of our times and not limited to Trump crisis. Much of our government and institutions, including the media are now packed with mediocre and incompetent people.

Dr Lee, the expertise, creative and philosophical ideas, the intellectual knowledge has no takers in today's world. Trying to disseminate intellectual knowledge in this world is like trying to sell wine in an orthodox Muslim country - there are no takers and its prohibited. This is the age of mediocrity, corruption and mechanized thinking. It's not just a problem with APA or Psychology field, it's common in field of economics, academics, arts and social sciences, politics, jurisprudence etc.

Dr Lee, if you want more media attention and want to become popular like George conway or others. You have to tone down your analysis to level of mediocrity and reductionist thinking. Don't talk about the corruption of APA and field of psychology. Don't talk about the corruption of big Pharma industry. Don't talk about family courts and institutionalized corruption of American legal system. Do not talk about crisis of Neoliberal capitalism and plutocracy (which own APA also). In other words, do not point to systemic and structural crisis of our political and economic system. Just make reductionist analysis of problems like Conway & other do. Just blame Trump as Psychopath and mentally unstable, a cause for all problems.

There was a child called Greta Thunberg who was once popular as she talked about global warming and polar bears. Media gave her extensive coverage. Later the child started talking about structural crisis of capitalism, imperialism, Democracy etc. And then media lost interest in her and she went into obscurity.

As long as you make trivial, mechanized and reductionist approach to societal problems in our times, you will have a platform and an audience. When you start to talk about structural and systemic crisis of our world, there won't be any platform or much audience. People can only absorb simple mediocre ideas. There minds are conditioned to mediocrity.

Deconditioning of the intellect and numbing of empathic affect are talismans of the degeneration of culture and respect for life writ large potentiated by MAGA Trumpism and its kindred pathologies in other nations. When individual human beings, whether willingly or subconsciously, aid and abet their own dehumanization, it suggests another form of the acquiescing in advance to fascism about which historian Timothy Snyder has continuously warned. We are doing the preparatory work of self-annihilation so that AI and robots can more easily finish us off.

Fascism at its core is Anti-intellectualism.

Dr. Lee, are you on LinkedIn? You can post your article on LinkedIn. A lot of people will see it. I think the reason why the media is reluctant to print your assessments of Trump is because Trump is "lawsuit-happy." He is also rich. Simply filing a lawsuit will put any newspaper or magazine on the defensive, where they have to reply to survive judgement. A small paper does not have the financial resources to manage a lawsuit. There are other mental health experts on Facebook who have given their diagnostic opinions on Trump. I don't think they last long, possibly for the same reason. I believe you about him.

Thank you Bandy. I have patients scheduled so I can’t make it. As I’ve written before power resists insight and thus prefers enactment. I think the most important instruction in addition to self care and checking our own pulses is “not emulating the pathologies of the putative leader”. More on this to come. But we may have been overtaken with nonsense, but let’s stick with reason compassion and relationship. While I have misgivings about the APA, it is also part of civil society and has done good. The tendency to blame and name enemies is part of Trump’s wheelhouse and he’d love nothing more than to divide all our houses and turn our brains into houses of pain. We have to cultivate love and kindness and connect to that in others as well. Of this is a case of electoral colic every 4 years, let’s find ways to soothe ourselves and ultimately be there for the population who doesn’t know their knee from their elbow, frankly. I hope we can stay united as we are at “the end of the beginning, not the beginning of the end.”

Electoral colic. lol.

I don't search out pain; there's more than enough to go around, but my personal pain seems to better nudge toward the untouchable, unseeable, ever-present eternal.

Dr. Lee, Thank you for the beautiful post. I was so sorry to miss our gathering. I had my note that it was for today (Friday) and just missed the email that we were on for Thursday this week. Needless to say I am eager to have the recording show up in my mail. Thank you so much for all the wonderful work you have done and will still do. This group is so fortunate to have you and I hope that we can nurture you in return. Take very good care of yourself.

Dr. Lee, your efforts toward saving American Democracy have not gone unnoticed by those who already understand how truly dangerous anyone with this type of personality is; let alone someone with money, fame and perceived power of a past term in office. The corruption has rotted through the entire country yet again and another malignant narcissist has fooled the smartest of our citizens into believing his lies, his illusions and the promises he offers. He intends to ruin what we have built with blood and sweat over nearly 250 years and replace it with an illusion of greatness...the gilded age of America as he calls it. If he does not destroy the world, he will surely ruin what is left of it. I am devastated your expertise was shut down. Please know there are many out here who heard you...just not enough to stop this with their votes. Thank you for trying.

Turnout was disappointing compared to 2020. Maybe democrats were over confident based on media, even though betting markets like predictit were for Trump.
